The problem
Failing render isn't just cosmetic.
External render that's cracking, delaminating, or blown in places isn't just an eyesore. Moisture is getting in behind it. Left long enough, it reaches the masonry and the internal plaster. The repair cost compounds.
Most failed render fails because the substrate wasn't prepared properly, the mix wasn't right for the wall type, or it was applied in the wrong conditions. Those aren't mistakes we make.
The Hancock approach
Substrate first. Render second.
We assess the wall before specifying the system. Sand and cement render is the workhorse — appropriate for most solid brick and blockwork. Monocouche is single-coat, fast, and good for new build or where colour-through finish is needed. Pebble dash is the right call for properties where it's the original finish.

Method
How a rendering job runs.
01
Substrate assessment
Check wall type, existing render condition, damp, and any structural movement. This determines the system.
02
Preparation
Remove failed render, clean the substrate, apply bonding agent or scratch key as required for the system specified.
03
Scratch coat
First coat applied and keyed before setting. The scratch coat is what the finish coat bonds to — this stage determines longevity.
04
Finish coat
Sand and cement, monocouche, or pebble dash applied and finished to specification. Clean, consistent, and properly cured.
